Practices

Our DragonSports USA dragon boats reside at the Riverplace Marina on the west bank of the Willamette River. Practices are generally Saturday mornings at 7:30 a.m. as well as Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. Paddlers should allow at least 1 hour and 30 minutes for practice time.

We start with a team warm up at the flagpole in front of the RiverPlace Hotel. After a message from the coaching staff, it is down the ramp to the boats for an hour on the water. .After practice, two or three boats of paddlers regroup at the flagpole and finish with a short stretching session. Warm ups and cool downs are important to injury prevention.

The Pinks can be found on the river rain or shine and only cancel practice if the water and weather conditions are hazardous to small craft. During the winter months (Thanksgiving - Valentines Day) we move onto dry land for various team fitness activities.

BCS paddlers visiting Portland as well as prospective members are welcome to attend a practice. Wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting wet. We'll provide you with a paddle and life vest. Contact info@pinkphoenix.org to request a visit.

Members receive the benefit of a parking pass for a private lot on SW 1st Avenue. Guests and visitors will find ample parking for a fee in downtown.
